This is the first stage of human development after birth that exhibits rapid cognitive and physical growth accompanied by social and emotional bonds with their caregivers. Through early interactions and connections with others they will experience growth that will impact them later on in life. 2 months - Calms down when spoken to; smiles when they hear a familiar voice

6 months - laughs and knows familiar faces

9 months - looks around when they hear their name; reacts when someone leaves a room; demonstrates different characteristics around strangers such as shyness, clinginess, and shyness

1 year - Waves bye and hi; plays games with others that start the process of mimicking
